Programs and Classes
GED Prep Class: The GED Prep Class prepares a student to take the General Educational Development Test (GED) and earn a diploma. Instruction focuses on math as well as reading and writing in the context of the subject areas covered by the GED exam; social studies, science, language arts reading and writing. Tennessee, like many other states, requires GED candidates to first take the Official Practice test (OPT) before taking the Official GED Test. The Official Practice test is offered free to qualifying candidates. The test last three (3) hours and twenty (20) minutes. A minimum score of 410 is required on each section with an overall average score of 450.
Fast Track: Our Adult Ed Fast Track class provides 12-15 hours of GED preparation training. It is for students with qualifying TABE Test scores. Students with strong reading, writing and math skills receive an overview of the GED test and working exclusively on GED test preparation. It is possible to attend orientation, take the OPT and sit for the GED Test all within one month.
Pre-GED Class: The Pre-GED class is for adults who have some basic reading and writing skills and wish to improve on those skills in order to enter the GED Prep Class.
Basic Skills Refresher: Students with a high school diploma or GED may need to brush up on reading, math and other subjects to prepare for college or skills training.
Adult Literacy Class: The class is designed to assist adults who wish to improve their proficiency in a variety of basic educational skills for them to be successful.
Individual Tutoring: One-on-one or small group instruction is available on as- needed basis with a volunteer tutor.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL): These classes are built around learning the English language to help non-native English speakers develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English. Classes are also designed to assist students in understanding and navigating governmental, educational, and workplace systems and key institutions such as banking and health care.
Career and College Guidance: Students attending Project Learn may participate in vocational assessment and counseling to identify career interests and abilities. A Career Advisor is available at Project Learn to guide your career exploration and help you develop a plan for gaining employment or entering training.
